• 1. WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

  • One difference is that our fabrics are printed with reactive dyes not pigments (see next question for full details). Another difference is we can print on just about any fabric you desire. We offer certain qualities that we keep in stock but if you request a certain fabric we can find it and print on the fabric of your choice. Another difference is that we offer a cut and sew service for basic designs such as pillows, table cloths etc. Additionally, we offer a design service. For a small fee we can take your image and prepare it for printing if your design is not "print ready". You can read more about this service below.
  • 2. Can you explain the care my fabric receives before it is my care?

  • We know that your fabric is very special to you and we feel the same actually. We would like to explain what the process is for developing your fabric. Karma Kraft uses reactive and disperse dyes as opposed to pigments. The reactive and disperse dyes that we use have a much deeper and richer color than the pigments dyes. With pigment dying there is a 2 step process, printing and then dry heat. The color is not as deep and rich and the color will not last as long as reactive and disperse dye process if the fabric needs to be washed regularly. With the reactive and disperse dying there is a 5 step process, pre-treatment of the fabric (sizing), printing, steaming, washing/softening and then drying. Yes this makes the process more time consuming for us but makes the final product better for you. In the end, printing with reactive and disperse dyes as opposed to textile pigments gives you a fabric more vivid in color, washable and softer in hand than other digital printing companies offering pigment dyed fabrics. For example, if you want to make a nice sheet set for bedding you would want to use a fabric that was printed in the reactive dye process which would make the sheets very soft and would be able to be washed again and again with no fading. That is why we allow 5-7 business days to take good care of your fabric. With a little extra time and care we don't just print a fabric, we print a fabric for life. See the Process
  • 3. What is the turn around for my project?

  • TIMELINE: 1. We will have your design pretreated, printed, cured and washed and softened within 5-7 business days of placing your order. 2. As soon as it is printed we will ship your fabric to you and that time will depend on where we are shipping to. Average shipping is about one week. NOTE: If you are using our cut and sew service we allow one extra week. Please click on question #2 above to see why our fabrics take a little longer to develop than some other printing companies and learn the entire process your fabric goes through before it is in your care.

  • 7. What format and resolution should I use for my design?

  • We work with most graphic formats including: .tif, .jpg, .ai, .psd, etc.. Save your files in CMYK color gamut and at 150 dpi or greater for best quality printing.
  • 8. What type of fabric can I print on?

  • You can print on a wide variety of fabric. Please visit or Materials page to see all of the fabric bases available. Learn More
  • 9. What type of dyes do you use?

  • We use reactive dyes for our cotton, linen and silk qualities and disperse dyes for the polyester. Most digital printing companies use textile pigment dyes for their product.
  • 10. What is the advantage of using reactive and disperse dyes over using textile pigments?

  • A:The reactive and disperse dyes that we use have a much deeper and richer color than the pigments dyes. With pigment dying there is a 2 step process, printing and then dry heat. The color is not as deep and rich and is not washable. With the reactive and disperse dying there is a 5 step process, pre-treatment of the fabric, printing, steaming, washing then drying. Yes this makes the process more time consuming for us but makes the final product better for you. In the end, printing with reactive and disperse dyes as opposed to textile pigments gives you a fabric more vivid in color, washable and softer in hand than other digital printing companies offering pigment dyed fabrics. With a little extra time and care we don't just print a fabric, we print a fabric for life.
  • 11. Why are the costs based on per square yard not linear yard?

  • Most of our fabrics are 58 inches wide and some people do not need a full 58 inch wide material so we didn't think they should have to pay for that printed area if in the end it will be wasted. We have it set up in our checkout page where you can enter your exact dimensions that you want printed and we will print only the area you require. This saves you money and also saves fabric and ink from being wasted.
  • 12. How do you match the color in my design?

  • If your design is 100% print ready and you are sure of the color we can print your current file in your CMYK colors. If you are not sure how to set your CMYK colors or would like a more exact color match you have three other options. 1.You can use the Pantone TPX, “For Fashion and Home” color guide. 2. You can use the Sherwin-Williams color guide which you can pick up at any of your local Sherwin-Williams store. Click to Learn More
  • 13. Is there a limitation on the number of colors?

  • No. Unlike traditional printing methods where there is a need to burn or engrave screens for each color, digital printing does not have any setup fees or limitations on the number of colors that we can print. With that being said, there also is NOT any difference in price by printing a 2 color design or a 200 color design!
  • 14. Are there any minimums or maxium order requirements?

  • No. We have the capability to print 1 yard or 1000 yards. Whatever your printing quanities require we can service you.
  • 15. How will the design repeat when it is printed?

  • Just let us know how you would like it to repeat. In Step 2 you will be able to see your design in a varity of repeats. If it’s just a single motif you can ½ drop it or tile it side by side. If it’s a single large image such as artwork, we can just print it the size you request. It would be better to upload the design in the correct scale so there is no design degradation problem if we need to enlarge the scale based on your repeat size. If the design needs to be in repeat as far as the edges of the pattern go, in other words a “choppable” pattern, then your artwork should be set up that way. You will also be able to preview your design in the different repeat patterns when you upload your picture and are ready to order. If you have questions concerning repeats please feel free to e-mail us and we can help you. Get Started Now
  • 16. How much will my printed fabric cost?

  • That will depend slightly on which material you use. Prices start at $20.00/sd yd. Please click on the Costs page for pricing information.Learn More
  • 17. Can I wash my fabric?

  • Yes. After printing the fabric goes into a hot room (like a sauna) and cures. Then the fabric is treated and washed so there will be no fading of color. When you receive your fabric it has already been washed and the colors have been locked in. You will be able to put your fabric in the wash with other materials without the concern of fading.
  • 18. Does the fabric feel soft to the touch after it has been printed?

  • Yes. After printing, the fabric is washed and softened and will have a wonderful hand. It is not like transfer printing like the old Farrah Fawcett t-shirts :>) where the image and color sits on top of the material and it may begin to peel or crack after some time. With digital printing the pigments penetrate the fibers which in turn allows us to wash it and will give the fabric a great hand.
  • 19. When I send you my design how do I know if my file is "print ready?"

  • Please check your "pattern size" in inches before submitting your design. If you do not have a design program that allows you to check the dimensions of your design we can tell you. Most of the images that are sent to us are 72 dots per inch (dpi) and this resolution is too small to produce a good quality print. You should submit at least a 150 dpi image for us to produce a good quality print. We will still print the fabric for you at a lower file resolution but want you to be aware it will not be as crisp as if it were a higher resolution file. If you would like for us to print your design and for it to be in a higher resolution version and you do not have the ability to do so, we can prepare your file for you so your design will be "print ready." The cost for this service is $10.00/color seperation. So if your design has 4 colors the color seperation charge would be $40.00. Additionally, sometimes a file is submitted that is larger in size than the size that needs to be printed. That is ok, we only have a problem when the file size is small and the printed size is large. So if the design size that you send is 4"X4" and you want the actual printed size to be 21"X21" then the image will be blurry. Just think about when you look at an image on your computer and "zoom in" the picture is not as clear. This is the same thing that happens if you send a file that is too small and you want it larger on the actual print. We will help you through this process but we just want you to understand how to get the best quality print.
  • 20. Do you offer traditional printing if I would like to go into production with my product?

  • Yes. If you have a product that is ready for larger printing runs we can also provide you with production yardage at a lower cost than digital printing. We can do production on silk, cotton or polyester in various printing methods, heat transfer, flat bed or gravature printing. There are minimums in traditional printing but if your product is ready to move from the sample stage (digital printing) to production we can meet you needs. E-Mail Us for a quote.
  • 21. Do you offer a price break for larger orders, designers or students?

  • Yes. If you are ordering larger quantities we can offer a discount if it is the same pattern. It is hard to offer much of a break when we have to change the pattern constantly because we evaluate the color on each print when we start on it. So let's say you have 25 different patterns and you want 2 sq/ yards of each of them, that would be 50 sq yards total but we would need to change the pattern 25 times, so that is difficult to offer a break because of the labor in changing that 25 times and checking the color before the print every time. If it is a constant run of the same pattern or only a few pattern changes within a larger run then we can offer a discount. We do offer designer and students dicounts. E-Mail Us for a quote.
  • 22. If I want a specific base fabric that is not on your fabric list can you get that for me?

  • Yes. If you order a fabric that we have in stock, which are the ones you see listed on the costs page there is no minimum or maximum. But if you would like us to get a roll of a special quality that we are not currently running we do appreciate a minimum order to assure our purchasing an entire roll is warranted. Ususlly we would like a 20 yard minimum for special requested base fabrics but if that fabric is requested by more than a few people we will add it to our stocked fabrics and at that point there would be no minimum. We can discuss your special needs on a case by case basis. E-Mail Us for a quote.
  • 23. If I have an old fabric, a design motif from a magazine or just a design I sketched on paper that I would like to print can you recreate the design or reprint the original design?

  • Yes and no. If you have a swatch of an old fabric that you would like to have us reprint we would rather not do that. It really depends on the design. Something like a generic motif, a ditsy or texture, yes we would be able to help you but if the design is an obvious piece of artwork we will not copy that. We are designers ourselves and are pretty tight on reproducing someone else's artwork. However, if you are in love with a piece of fabric that you can't find anywhere we can help you to develop your own design. Our artists will look at your design and create a new piece of artwork especially for you based on the feeling and style of the design you wnt to capture the essence of. If you choose to do this the artwork belongs to you after it has been purchased. We do not retan the artwork nor the copyright. Additionally, if you have a design sketched out on paper or just an idea in your mind we can work with you to create your pattern. The cost for an original piece of artwork is between $100-$300 depending on the complexity. You do own the artwork when we are finished. This is a seperate service from the fabric printing, we just know there are many of you who would like to use this service but can't because you do not have the time or experience to develop a design. So we created this service for you. E-Mail Us for a quote on your own pattern idea.
  • 24. Do you ship internationally?
